A Brief History of the 1967 Yenko

Everyone knows about the 1969 Yenko Camaros.  That was the first (and prett much only) year that Yenko Chevrolet actually ordered the cars through the Central Office Production Order (COPO) system.  But not a lot of people know that there are 67 and 68 cars that Yenko built out of SS cars.  In 1967, you could go to Yenko Chevrolet and order a Yenko Camaro.  They would start with the SS and ask you - “Do you want anything else while we’re in there?”  Most peope would get headers, upgraded suspension and other goodies.  This fact made it a little easier to build a 1967 recreation car as each one was built a little differently.  The main distinguishing feature on the majority of 67 Yenkos was the Stinger Hood - just like the Corvette.  Not all cars got this fiberglass hood but it looks fantasic on First Gen Camaros!  There are conflicting reports of about how many of these Camaros were produced and sold and estimates are that there are less than 10 original cars remaining.  With so few left, one of the most recent 67 Yenkos recently sold at Mecum Auctions for $480,000!!!!!
